JPEG and JPG are the same format — two names for the Joint Photographic Experts Group standard, with .jpeg being the original four-letter extension and .jpg the shortened version popularised by early Windows systems that required three-letter file extensions.
Today both extensions are interchangeable and refer to identical files. A .jpeg file and a .jpg file open in exactly the same way in every application.
