About HEIC

What is HEIC?

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is Apple's default photo format since iOS 11, released in 2017. It stores the same image quality as JPG at roughly half the file size, saving valuable storage space on iPhones and iPads.

Why convert HEIC to JPG?

HEIC is not supported by Windows Photo Viewer, most Android devices, social media upload tools, or the majority of image editing software. Converting your HEIC photos to JPG gives you universal compatibility — every device, every app, every website can open a JPG file without additional software or plugins.

💻

Open on Windows

Windows doesn't support HEIC natively. Convert to JPG and open your photos in any app — File Explorer, Photoshop, Paint, email clients.

📤

Share anywhere

JPG is accepted by every social media platform, email client, cloud service, and document tool. HEIC often gets blocked or rejected.

🖨️

Print & edit

Most photo labs, print services, and editing software require JPG or PNG. Convert HEIC first for seamless printing and editing.

📋

Submit documents

HR portals, government forms, and application systems typically only accept JPG. Convert your HEIC ID photos before uploading.

Tips & limitations

Before you convert

Quality 90–95% for photos

At this setting, JPG output is visually identical to the original HEIC for almost all uses. Drop to 75–85% only for small thumbnails or where download speed is the priority.

JPG removes transparency

If your HEIC file contains transparent or semi-transparent areas, those will be replaced with a white background in the JPG. Use PNG or WebP output if you need to preserve transparency.

Batch to save time

Drop up to 20 HEIC files at once and download everything as a ZIP. You get the same quality result for each file without converting one at a time.

Always keep originals

JPG compression is lossy and irreversible. Keep a copy of your original HEIC files — especially if you might need to re-export at a different quality or size later.

How to convert

Convert HEIC to JPG in 3 steps

1

Drop your HEIC files into the converter above, select JPG as the output format, and click Convert. Your files download instantly — completely free, no account or software needed.
Windows does not natively support the HEIC format. You need either the HEIC Image Extensions add-on from the Microsoft Store (sometimes paid) or you can simply convert your HEIC files to JPG using SnapConvert — the fastest free option.
JPG uses lossy compression, so some quality reduction does occur. However at SnapConvert's default 92% quality setting, the difference is essentially invisible to the human eye. Use the quality slider to find the balance that works for you.
Yes! SnapConvert supports batch conversion of up to 20 HEIC files at once. After converting, download them individually or as a single ZIP file with one click.
Absolutely. SnapConvert runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript — your photos never leave your device. No data is uploaded, stored, or accessed by anyone.
Go to Settings → Camera → Formats and select "Most Compatible" instead of "High Efficiency." Your iPhone will then save photos as JPG by default. Existing HEIC photos will need to be converted manually.
